This Face Wardrobe pairs a matte red lip with a flawless warmed complexion.
It may come as a surprise or not that the most frequently asked question I receive from Manila Clients is, “How do I wear red lips?” It seems to be the greatest apprehension which consistently arises when conducting image consultations.
As an image consultant (specializing in beauty), this was indeed a big surprise. The color red when it comes to beauty is the quintessential go-to color when it comes to wanting to look more powerful or seductive, two most highly aspired traits when it comes to women’s image. So clearly, this was an ideal first choice for the first Face Wardrobe feature.
Carmencita Sioson, more commonly known as Cit is a fashion stylist, editor and columnist whose grace and beauty exudes beyond her work but into her personal style as well. From the first moment I met Cit, I knew given the chance I would like to one day have her as a Face Wardrobe subject. Her understated classic beauty is the perfect canvas for many a face wardrobes. Luckily a project last November, allowed me the opportunity to make her up and get to know her as well. Hence, when it was time to to do the first Face Wardrobe feature on this site, there was no more ideal canvas as well.
A Face Wardrobe is an extension of your image and personal style. While most understand personal style to begin and end with their clothing wardrobe, this is not the case. Your face being the first thing that people see when you interact with them is an integral part of your image and personal style. How you ‘wear’ your face should naturally reflect the personal style and image that you would like your clothing to say about you. It is from this approach that one begins to construct their face wardrobe effectively.
Cit’s personal style is a mix of classic silhouettes juxtaposed with unique details and craftsmanship that lend itself to an effortless but fashionable look. As frequently photographed as she is, it also came as a surprise that she too was not versed in how to wear red in a face wardrobe. She is frequently photographed with a very neutral and natural look, which also is then the one she is most accustomed to and comfortable in. Yet given her natural golden skin tone, toned physique and personal style, I knew a red lip face wardrobe would be an amazing fit.
Like many clients, Cit was initially weary of wearing red but I wanted to show her as well how red can be very flattering and wearable for the day (contrary to common perception).
To make red lips work it must be the only focal point of a face wardrobe. Like a style wardrobe, the beauty lies in balancing the elements that create the complete look. When doing a strong lip, the rest of the face must be subdued in order to draw all attention to that one detail. For the eyes, instead of doing a smokey eye with false lashes I opted to do a very natural defined eye. The complexion plays a great role in balancing a strong lip; for this face wardrobe given the natural features of Cit I paired this lip with a natural warm and glowing complexion utilizing bronzer and highlight for a natural effect. The glow of the skin is the perfect balance to the matte finish of the lip. This balance is what makes this face wardrobe wearable and effortless for the day.
The key products used in this face wardrobe are:
